Our Story
<span data-metadata=""><span data-buffer="">Built in 1914, this building was the first hospital in the area. It was also the first building with a concrete foundation. Over the years it has been a school, a dormitory, and had many other uses. The idea for a maritime museum came from local fishermen beginning in the 1970's. A group of passionate volunteers worked hard with local and provincial funding bodies and transformed the building into as a museum. It opened for its first season in 2001, and you can now see how the building has gone through many transitions.
