Our Story
Built in 1914, this structure was the area's first hospital and the first to feature a concrete foundation. Over the decades, it has served many roles—including as a school, a dormitory, and more.
The idea to transform it into a maritime museum originated with local fishermen in the 1970s. Thanks to the dedication of passionate volunteers and support from both local and provincial funding bodies, the building was eventually repurposed as a museum.
It officially opened for its first season in 2001. Today, visitors can explore the museum and witness the many transformations this historic building has undergone.
